It’s not every day you get the chance to speak with a United States Secret Service agent. Albert Tam recently retired from his twenty-five year law enforcement career as the Supervisory Special Agent for the Secret Service’s Office of Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs.

He has worked in multiple cities, where he led criminal investigations and conducted behavioral threat assessments and protective intelligence investigations. Albert also provided protection and security to Vice Presidents Cheney and Biden.

I had a ton of questions for Albert. Is the work more physical or mental? What does it take to be a good agent? He was very gracious to answer my questions and share stories about life on the road during protective detail for Vice Presidents Cheney and Biden.

Albert was in DC during the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack and at Trump’s infamous photo op at St. John’s Church. We discussed his thoughts on those incidents and some of what happened behind the scenes. As a reminder, the opinions expressed in this podcast are his own and do not reflect the United States Secret Service.

I feel fortunate to have shared in this insightful conversation with Albert where he reminded me that at the end of the day, we are all human.
