Everyone who has read my anti-social media post (yes, the irony is I am blogging right now) knows how difficult it is for me to keep up.  However, the one that I embrace the most are the #tbt #fbf posts.  Why? Nostalgia.

I am one of those people who goes to clean out the closet or drawer and ends up sitting there looking at old photos, reminiscing and laughing at myself. Today I was cleaning out video files and thought I would share my ‘mini’ action demo reel.

What’s a demo reel my non-stunt world friends?  Demo reels consist of action footage of your work so that you can potentially get more work.  You want to show action footage of ‘real work’, meaning actual film or tv shows.  However, how do you get real work footage without experience?  Chicken and egg scenario for most stunt people.

I also found myself trying to help our new gymnastics coach ‘break into the business’ yesterday, with old-school advice of demo reels and hustling (which means you show up on set and try to get in front of stunt coordinators).  I then referred him to my successful friends who are actually still in the business.

We are proud of our line up of Wah Lum stuntmen that have gone on to fight, fly, flip, and burn in action films from Pirates of the Caribbean (doubling Johnny Depp), Wonder Woman (training Gal Gadot), and Black Panther (getting hit in the face, a lot).

Christopher Leps, Ryan Watson, and Michael Jamorski all started their careers with Wah Lum. From their kung fu training, they went on to work at Disney and Universal Studios.  A common path for many aspiring stuntmen.  Check out Chris and Ryan’s interviews to hear more about their stories. I haven’t interviewed Mike yet… but I will soon!

So today, I get a little nostalgic about my old days of flipping, flying, and getting hit in the face.   I think my students might enjoy seeing me get hit in the face for a change. 😉
