It’s March 9 and the highly anticipated Secret Project has been revealed! Hopefully it wasn’t too anticlimatic. We had fun making the video, and although it is a tad on the silly side – the message we are relaying is serious.

Origins

Oscar has thought about the Ten Fit Commandments for a long time. We are both huge Biggie fans and have always thought it would be cool to make an original song based on Notorious B.I.G.’s 10 Crack Commandments. We realize the original song is about drugs…but we made it into something healthy!

R.I.P. BIG

Doing and thinking about a project are such different animals! Oscar has no delusions about a rap career starting at 40, however my young cousin Josh aka J.L.C. Riddims is starting his music producing career.

As soon as Josh found out we had this idea, he quickly starting laying down tracks and before we know it he called and said,”Oscar…your beat is ready.”

Pressure was on! However, it was good pressure. Big up to J for pushing us to get this project off the ground and for all his work on this song! It sound nice, yes!

Josh in Maserati.
Josh in Maserati… Borrowed!

The entire song was written by Oscar and the track was produced by Josh. I filmed it, cut it together to what you now see as the Ten Fit Commandments music video.

Emmy was our scene stealer with the fried chicken shot. Fun Fact: She was starving as it was well past lunchtime when she had to ‘bite’ the chicken for several takes before getting to eat it! Thanks Emmy for your smiles and being a good sport!

Although it is fun and whimsical, O took a lot of care in his lyrics and really means each one! He also made sure the the rhyme pattern follows Biggie’s original song. This was no easy feat!

BREAKDOWN

For those that have trouble following along, here’s a breakdown/summary of each commandment:

  • #1: Exercise is best with a COACH!
  • #2: Move the joints (joint warm ups)
  • #3: The importance of rest and recovery
  • #4: You win simply with consistency
  • #5: Practice safety
  • #6: Strength training = muscles
  • #7: Stay hydrated
  • #8: Keep a positive mindset
  • #9: Watch what you eat
  • #10: Refine your movement

Of course these are not his only rules to fitness, but this is what worked with the song – so don’t overanalyze this! Have fun with it!

As you can see at Control Your Health we have a good time and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’d love to hear what you think of the video, song, beat, or our silly nature! If you love it, please SHARE IT!

Special thanks to…

  • Eric Ortiz – who took time to mix the track and give it a pro sound.
  • Jeremy Rose – our technical artist who made all the cool numbers on screen.
  • Shawn and Ying Leaf, Alec Avera – graciously let us borrow their Tesla and Maserati for the shoot. We kept it under 100!

Message from Oscar:

Here are the 10 FIT Commandments!

Directed, shot and edited by Mimi Chan. Produced by J.L.C Riddims. Performed by Oscar Agramonte.

Yes, we are having fun. No I don’t think I’m a rap star! But we did try to pay respect to Notorious B.I.G while putting out something positive, useful, and a little funny. Rapping is way harder than I thought it would be!

When I moved to Orlando from Brooklyn, NY in 1994, I held on to where I came from by with hip hop music.

The 10 FIT Commandments are an homage to the 10 Crack Commandments. The original was produced by my favorite hip hop beat maker of all time DJ Premier and performed by hands down my favorite artist The Notorious B.I.G.

While the original was about the drug game, this one is about the best medicine you can take- Fitness, Movement, Nutrition- use them all to Take Control of Your Health!

Are there more and maybe better ‘fit commandments’? Probably, but these fit into the song the best. I tried to copy Biggie’s rhyme flow and that reminded me just how talented he was.

If you enjoy any part of this, the credit has to go to Mimi for making it happen AND for making it look good, Josh for the beat, Eric for audio engineering, Jeremy for technical artistry, and Emmy for being a scene stealer. Anything weird about it…. that would be me.

If you enjoyed it, please SHARE! Thanks!!
