I am known to cook some pretty fabulous meals if I do say so myself.  However,  I deserve a break too right?  O is pretty picky about food, especially since he is used to my home cooked meals.  Not too many husbands I know get asked: Chocolate or Grand Marnier Soufflé tonight? I know, his life is horrible.

So, where do I go in Orlando to eat?  The one dish I always leave to the master chefs is sushi.  There is just way too much prep work, and buying fresh fish is nearly impossible.  When I need a break, we go out for sushi!

Sushi chefs are incredible with a knife, and they are practically sculptors.  There is a mastery in learning to blend, prepare, and showcase sushi.  You can’t say you’ve lived unless you’ve tried the perfect bite of food: sushi.  There is so much flavor!

All sushi is not created equal.  I admit I am spoiled.  When it comes to sushi, I am really spoiled.  I happen to personally know the best sushi chef in OrlandoChef Parker at Jade Sushi and New Asian in College Park.

I do not say this because I know him personally.  Those who know me, know how critical and ahem, brutally honest I can be.  I say this because he is truly a master of his craft.

Jade Sushi and New Asian

I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar.  It’s fun to engage in friendly chatter while watching him slice and dice his way through fatty tuna.  My mouth is watering thinking about it!

The sushi is unbelievably tasty, and oh so beautiful.  Almost too beautiful to eat.  Almost. I cannot describe the incredible blend of flavors and textures in each bite. You just have to go and experience it yourself!

Susuru Orlando

I went to the soft opening of Jade’s newly opened sister restaurant, Susuru in Lake Buena Vista.  Susuru is a Japanese gastropub that will make you feel like you’ve stepped into retro Japan.

I walked up to the eye catching sign of a laughing pig and chicken, and I couldn’t help but smile.  And smile you will throughout your entire dining experience.

The atmosphere delights from the music to the pop culture toys and decor on display.  Even the bathrooms are fun!  I dare you not to take a selfie!

The food: Fresh, fun, and fabulous.

Standouts: Tori Senbei.  Three words: fried chicken chips.  Yes, please!  Fried chicken chips with guacamole – this dish is a hit.

The Mentaiko fries are cooked to perfection with strips of nori and spicy cod roe mayo.  The entire combination adds a nice richness and salt to this savory dish.

I’m not normally a fan of Yakitori skewers, but the ones here are tasty.  I went with a group of friends, and they were raving about the variety of the dishes. I didn’t get to sample it personally, but apparently, the corn is phenomenal.  This is a fun place, and I recommend you go with friends!

If you decide to take a break from cooking, visit either of these incredible foodie spots in Orlando.  Maybe I’ll catch you there when it’s my night off to cook too!
