I often write down quotes that catch my eye or ear. The quote above was in a speech Stephen Colbert gave many years ago.

Humans can be so very disappointing. I try to stay positive and hopeful, but it is against my nature. It frustrates me when we are given the opportunity to do the right thing time and time again…and yet…

I’ve been outraged and depressed about the state of the world before, but the recent Cornell fraternity news has me up in arms.

Did you know: The expression “up in arms” started in the 1500s as a literal military term for soldiers or citizens physically picking up weapons and armor to fight an enemy? I didn’t until I looked it up, but figured it was something like that!

Shall we citizens and good people of the world pick up our weapons to fight the enemy? Yes, yes we shall.

Weapons can be many things. Words can be weapons. We are so careless and liberal with our words most of the time. Yet, in a time where words could have been powerful and protective, people chose to remain silent.

I am a teacher. I try to teach my martial arts students that to be silent is to be complicit.

If you don’t know what Cornell case I’m referring to, I am going to link a news post HERE. I have no desire to write about this in detail, because honestly it makes me physically ill.

As a survivor of childhood sexual assault, this matter is very sensitive to me. I wrote about my experience so that the cycle of violence and lack of education would stop.

I recognize this blog post is a rant. I acknowledge it and I am not apologetic about it.

Why? Well, I think you know the answer.

Let’s all be up in arms together.
